Sometimes, we stuck with a feeling that we couldn’t think of anything. This was what I felt right now. My mind stuck and it made me not wanting to do anything, made me restless since I need new and fresh ideas. I didn’t want left with this feeling any longer. Fortunately, I received an opportunity to staycation at The Journey Hotel for 3 days / 2 nights. I immediately started arranging my schedule and hopefully this could become a new experience, which brought me some fresh ideas.
The day had turned into afternoon and I was ready to go to The Journey Hotel, which was located at Jl. Sorosutan no. 2E, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta. After few minutes, I finally arrived at The Journey Hotel. My staycation story began when I first saw the hotel from the outside, an earth brown building with contemporary exterior design. As far as I know, budget hotel is very common in Yogyakarta and to be honest, I didn’t have very high expectation of it.
After my car entered the hotel area, I finally able to clearly saw the hotel building. Even though I think the hotel was cute, I couldn’t resist the thought that the hotel looked small and there were not many interesting activities that I could do. After I got off from my car, I entered the hotel and went to receptionist to check in.
The Journey Hotel Jogja, small budget hotel with BIG design concept!
All of my previous thoughts about the hotel gone in an instant after I saw the lobby, and wow The Journey Hotel lobby interior is very attractive. From the material choice, color selection, interior design and even the furniture are chosen to match with each other. I can’t wait to explore every corner of the hotel especially the lobby since it has a lot of interesting photo spot, and that put a smile on my face!
Finished with the hotel check in, I went upstairs into my room in second floor. I was surprised by unusual scenery. The wall is covered with oceans-themed mural, which is another interesting photo spot in the hotel. FYI, the mural is painted by two cool illustrator @chiketania and @niko.wiratma, you can check their artwork on Instagram. The floor, which is combination of classic motif and cement color is beautiful, it can be found in all corner of the room. The use of cement color and bright colored motifs, especially orange and yellow are the unique feature of The Journey Hotel.
Finally, I entered my room. The first thing that impress me is the clean, light and simple feeling which makes me instantly feel comfortable. The room size is surprisingly large for the budget hotel and the room interior is better than I expected. The highlight of the interior design is the bathroom, which is cute and clean with classic tiles everywhere.
Room facilities included are hot water, TV, Wi-Fi and telephone to connect room with receptionist, which is very generous for a budget hotel. I spent my first day exploring every corner of the hotel to take many snap. I feel that I can find many inspirations from the hotel design and that’s what I need right now!
I slept soundly on the first day. Not long after woke up, a clerk came to delivered my breakfast, note that The Journey Hotel has 4 breakfasts menu to choose from. And voila I got that eureka moment when I was enjoying the breakfast. I got an idea to do food styling by combining my breakfast with some props that I often brought (and hey fellas, it’s important to always carry photo props during staycation). Guys, what do you think about my first food styling?
I stayed with few friends at The Journey Hotel. On the second day, we spent our time by trying local culinary destination around the hotel and sure enough, there are plenty to choose from, ranging from café, restaurant and even street food stall.
Then the third day came, we were packing our stuff and ready to go home. Right at 12.00 we came down to lobby. The hotel receptionist is very friendly and hospitable. From the moment we arrived until we went home, they are very friendly when serving us and patiently helping during photo shoot :D. In addition, they are very quick and responsive too.
The Journey Hotel is one of the best budget hotel in Yogyakarta with a good service. Moreover, they offer really good facilities for a budget hotel. The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable helped us to get a good rest since its location is not close to the street. We barely hear any vehicle sound from our room. The location is also accessible and there are plenty of local attractions, which can be visited, especially for culinary destination. The important thing is that I got many new fresh ideas from this staycation here.
One of the unique feature that makes The Journey Hotel memorable is the interior design, which is different from other hotel. The impression of the hotel is warm and fresh. Every corner of the hotel is incredibly attractive to be photographed, like Yogyakarta, that will be always remembered and make anyone want to go back again.
