For about 3 hours I shut my eyes to sleep and then I’m awake at 4 o’clock. Not long after that, the room phone rang. It was a morning call from Plataran Heritage Borobudur Hotel and Convention Center’s receptionist. They gave me an info that the pickup car will be ready at 4.30 am. Yup, if you read my latest article, this was my second day in Plataran Borobudur. At this early morning, even the sun haven’t rose yet, I forced my eyes to open, washed my face and get ready to see the sunrise at Patio Lobby Deck that located at Plataran Borobudur Resort and Spa. I feel like I want to cancel my intention because of this extraordinary drowsiness. But somehow my desire to enjoy the sunrise at Patio Lobby Deck was greater. Even thought, we got the info the night before, if in the previous day there was rain, usually the sunrise will not appear. That morning I get an info that the sky is a little cloudy. With all of the uncertainty, I keep trying and wish that I’d have the chance to see the sunrise. Yes, the moral value is try all of the opportunities you get, just set aside the result, of course in a positive way. Oh, how wise I am haha.
It takes 5 minutes from Plataran Heritage Borobudur Hotel and Convention Center to Patio Lobby Deck which located in the 3rd floor of Plataran Borobudur Resort and Spa’s lobby. It’s still quite dark when I get to the Patio Lobby Deck and nobody is there. Not long after the staff from Patio Lobby Deck came to deliver me coffee, tea, and some snacks to accompany me looking at the sunrise. The sky slowly but sure began to show it signs of sunrise. The sky in the opposite direction was still dark, but in the east, a mixture of yellow and orange blush on the horizon began to appear at 4.50 am. I feel very excited waiting for the sun rise up. Not forget to capture its incredibly beautiful landscape. You’ll realize the majesty of God’s work while enjoying the change of sky’s shade from dark to light. Just like our life, sometimes the dark comes up, but the light will surely come afterwards. There will always be a hope like the sun that will rise every day. In addition to the beautiful sky scenery during the sunrise, you will also get a view of Borobudur temple from Patio Lobby Deck. The sunrise had become even more beautiful as the sun peeked over the horizon. As the sun slowly gone up around 5.20 am and sky shows its orange shade, I enjoyed it with snacks served on my table.
Sunrise breakfast in Patio Lobby Deck was one of the Plataran’s encounter. The Plataran Encounter was personalized activities which has arranged by Plataran Borobudur for their guests. The aim was for giving their guests an extraordinary experience to the nature, culture, and destination in their area. The activities they offered like cooking class, village tour, batik lesson, making herbs, and many more. For this sunrise breakfast the cost was around Rp 250.000++/person include coffee or tea, and snack facilities in Patio Lobby Deck. The guest also could continue their breakfast in Patio main joglo restaurant after that.

That afternoon the sky was a bit dark even though it was just four o’clock in the afternoon. I was at Patio Restaurant to have my lunch. Yes, a late lunch, I know, cause I spend my time at the spa for so long. Who doesn’t love spa, it is relaxing right?
Patio Restaurant located in the Plataran Borobudur Resort and Spa. To go to Patio Restaurant you can enter through the lobby Plataran Borobudur Resort and Spa and use the elevator in their lobby to the 2nd floor. Just a little walk and you could find Patio Restaurant. I personally love their design and interior in Patio Restaurant as it is mostly white with a very strong colonial feel. The furniture selection was so classic with a lot of wood-based furniture that enhance it’s classiness. There is a swimming pool in the side of Patio Restaurant’s terrace, is not too big but could soothe your eyes sight with its light blue reflection from the pool. I prefer to spend my time in Patio in the afternoon because the sun wasn’t so blistering anymore and you could feel the wind breeze get on your body. Moreover, from Patio Restaurant we can see Borobudur Temple scenery either directly or using binoculars that are provided in the front yard area. But unfortunately, on that day a heavy rain was just stopped, so I couldn’t capture the view of Borobudur temple with my camera. Accompanied by the sound of rain and when it was dark, I enjoy my late lunch. The ingredients that Patio Restaurant used are all certainly fresh because some of the vegetable and spices is directly picked from their very own organic garden. Their menu is mostly international dishes, consist of western menu and classic Indonesian dishes.
The first menu was Borobudur Sesame Tuna and Almond & Mandarin Orange Salad. Borobudur Sesame Tuna was a signature dish from Patio Restaurant. This menu consists of homemade hummus that was made from some kinds of mashed peanuts (the texture was like mashed potatoes but softer), slice of tuna, and tabbouleh salad. The tabbouleh salad was a middle east Arabian dish which consists of tomatoes, parsley pieces, mint and some spices. It was plated beautifully which adopt Borobudur temple form as its concept. FYI, all the ingredients in this menu were raw served.
My mouth waters when it served. Its peeled mandarin orange, almond sprinkles, and green lettuce have made our minds say that this menu was so fresh. Yep there are also apple crunch pieces, red onion, sundried tomato, and chopped bacon in Almond and Mandarin Salad’s bowl. This salad also has a sour taste that comes from vinaigrette dressing. As I began to feel full of greasy food, I took a bit of this salad to refresh the taste of my tongue and ready for another heavy menu. Well I know I should not enjoy salads this way, but this is my own favorite way.
The second menu was French Onion Soup. It has a unique presentation, instead of using regular bowl they choose to use an edible bowl. What? Yes, they used a freshly baked loaf of crusty bread as its bowls and lids. It was tasty made from a very thick broth consist of beef and onion, served with au gratin with mozzarella.
The third menu was Tumpeng Nusantara and Filetto di Manzo. Tumpeng Nusantara made from an Indonesian authentic turmeric rice, served with balado prawn, grilled chicken leg, caramelized sweet soybean cake which in Indonesia called as sambal goreng tempe with sweet, tasty, salty, and crunchy taste on its tempeh. In addition there are sauteed string beans, a tender tasty sweet beef skewers, and steamed fish wrapped in banana leaf, called as pepes. It has a salty and spicy taste, soft texture, and a unique aroma that comes from the banana leaf.
Proceed to Filetto di Manzo which is beef tenderloin fillet with a pretty thick yet satiate size. It was served with warm potato salad mixed with mushroom, sauteed string beans, and mushroom sauce. There are whole onions which grilled as its complement. As a onion lover, I am snacking it during my late lunch in Patio Restaurant.
Pisang Bakar Onte Onte and Banana Souffle served as my closing menu from Patio Restaurant. Pisang Bakar Onte Onte basically similar with other roasted banana in Indonesia. The thing that make it different was the caramelized brown sugar that greased with a sweet taste and grated coconut to make it a bit salty. The banana was roasted by flambe techniques that make it ripe evenly into its core.
The taste of the Banana Soufflé in Patio Restaurant was not too sweet, but very creamy and soft. Every taste composition feels balance and fit each other. This menu must be tried if you visit Patio Restaurant because I rarely find Banana Soufflé with a very good taste like that. FYI Banana Soufflé is usually found in only 4 or 5 star hotels or fine dining restaurants because the banana soufflé making technique is quite difficult. To enjoy the best taste it should serve immediately when it out from the oven. Patio Restaurant served it with fruit compote and homemade ice cream.
The last drink consists of three menus. First, the Rejuvenating Juice, made fresh with a shade of green as its color since it is made from apple, pakchoi, pineapple, and honey. My first thought this would have a strange taste. But after I tasted the sweet and sour with the scent of pakchoi but just slight taste of it. The second one was Kamadhatu Punch which has a fresh orange color that made from mixed juice of orange, pineapple, melon, lime, and grenadine. Can you imagine the fresh and sour with lil bit sweet taste?
The third menu was Syailendra which has beautiful color mix between white from the soursop and purple from the dragon fruit. Lychee and lime give a fresh taste into it.
Overall, the menus in Patio Restaurant had a big serving size for Indonesian. Patio Restaurant’s price range starts from about IDR 85.000/person until about IDR 150.000/person. While beverages start from about IDR 45,000/person until about IDR 160,000/person. However, they put a minimum purchase at Patio Restaurant, it is 300.000++/ pax.
This is the end of my journey in the Plataran Borobudur, but this is not the end of the story about Plataran Borobudur. On the next post, I will review the Plataran Encounter and two spa venues located in Plataran Borobudur area. My journey was so pleasant with warm and friendly staff from Plataran Borobudur whose service were very pleasing. The long journey will be paid off with all facilities, food, air, and the scenery that presented at Plataran Heritage Borobudur Hotel & Convention Center and Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa. I really hope to come back and visit Plataran in other locations with a concept that is certainly not less interesting than Plataran Borobudur and for sure I could share my experience for many people. So keep in touch with me for more interesting experiences!
